Monissa Solberg

Psychiatry has so many different areas that one can develop an expertise in and when Monissa Solberg began to study for her career in psychiatry, she decided that she would focus on helping those in the most difficult of situations as her area of expertise. After earning her medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, she began a fellowship in forensic psychiatry. Forensic psychiatry is the study of the mind as it relates to the law and justice system.

During this time, she was able to provide psychiatric evaluations as well as expert witness testimony. It was here that she was inspired to start doing some more research into this specific area of study.

Today, Monissa Solberg has done extensive research on topics such as maternal depression, mental illness in underserved communities as well as the effects of solitary confinement on mentally ill incarcerated individuals. This last topic was inspired by the fellowship she completed early on in her career and she continues to work in this field as an expert witness and performs forensic psychiatric evaluations. The research papers she has written have been numerous and she has presented her findings at a variety of national psychiatric meetings. Serving patients is the goal of Monissa Solberg and she feels privileged to be able to do this daily in her career.
